This is a very complex issue, and one that certainly cannot be replied to or explained in just one article or comment.
I myself have Jewish roots from my mother side. They were expelled from Spain hundreds of years ago. I have studied the Torah and it is clear to me that the Torah, as well as other religions, were utilised as building blocks of stability to keep groups of people or tribes intact before the entire idea of the nuclear family was invented.
It definitely does keep men and women trapped in different roles (imagine even being a gay male/woman and forced to marry), and while unfair (I definitely agree that it is very unfair), was the way our ancestors tried to survive. As time went by, because people did not know much about science, men only had rights via their "might." This was definitely wrong too, and religion was definitely used as a means of control, not only over women, but other men.
This kept people poor, barely surviving, and dependent, just like today. Not only that, but when religion was removed from the equation, the "elites" as we call them, had to find another way to keep everyone barely surviving (the economy has been manipulated many times since then). But at the same time, look at women today.
While many of us are advancing, some are willingly choosing to remain entrapped in religion and want/desire men. I was raised in an almost cult-like religious upbringing, but I escaped from that on my own. I am the only woman (aside from my sister), who didn't have children either. But then I get very discouraged when I see how women behave today. Many of them lust over men, desire sex with men all the time, and want to have children. They talk about marriage all the time, and how "their man" is different. It disgusts me as well, how some women (the majority probably, not just some), still worship men as being some type of "god-like" figure.
It is indeed very tiring. I wish I could write more, but I don't want to write a long, cumbersome reply. Thanks for the thought-provoking article.
Each religion and ethnic group proposes reasons in retrospect to showcase how it happened and how it HAD to happen. Jewish people are often the first to try to school me on the necessity of patriarchy when I write on these matters. (I'm NOT saying this is what you are doing, only that it is a common phenomenon, as far as my own experience goes, to use "the protection of the tribe" as a perfectly legit reason to keep the roles of the sexes distinct, and never mind what it does to women. But these reasons are hardly specific to Jewish people, and the way they deal with the problem of finding themselves attacked and forced to face prejudice is not unique either. This (the birth of patriarchy and why we still protect it) is, and was always, to put it bluntly, about men's constant state of horniness. The need for that regular fuck. That's it. Mystery solved. Marriage was invented for this purpose. Women's isolation, creating a structure that assured them they are nothing but sex providers and birthing machines, all of it. All the rest of it is trimmings... A key moment in history occurred in ancient Greece, and particularly Athens: A democracy structured socially around main classes: Athenian men citizens (the elite), Metics (other Greeks) and Douloi (slaves). The privileges of the elite class were protected by the very isolation of women (so that it was made sure that they would never have children out of marriage with any man of the other classes and by that "taint" the ruling class. This is when the covering of the head was initiated too: to keep women hidden even when they were allowed to be out of their homes. My point is that there are always reasons for our subjugation. They are always centred around men's sexual needs and social privileges. Let us separate them from their ethnicity or religion (which is the theme of my previous post(see below). And you are right: it is very disheartening that women still cling to the idea of marriage, centring men in the way they do. Especially now that what's out there is different varieties of fetishists and incels (like you've pointed out in your own latest article, which I have just read and enjoyed greatly, - and restacked!) Note: Feel free to send your comments, I love reading them :-)
I think that is a critical part of the revolution and as you say, probably how it starts. But I want us to own the legislature, and the means of enforcement, the development and application of law, and the police and military. These institutions built by men protect men and harm women and children. So even as women do the hard grass roots stuff, change our lives, we remain vulnerable to male instutional power, and it rarely works in our best interests as of course you know. Globally, women and children make up something like 75% of trafficked peoples, for example. The Taliban can impose what they have in Afghanistan and our national sports organisations and politicians still engage with excuses and bullshit. I know you know this stuff, but until we own the legal levers, we are putting out local bushfire, while arsonists follow us with matches and petrol. The stuff you are describing is the critical groundwork required to prepare western women to change thier relationships with men, and each other, and for men to understand, as you say, just how much of their comfort and happiness has been built on unproven superiority. It is only their physical strength and their proximity to power that sustains it. But they have proven that they cannot willingly let go of their control. It must be taken. That's where I'm at. Not in a radicalised fashion. Like I said, I'm interested in a long- term plan to make it happen. The idea of writing a book about it is really just a way to explore the possibility in detail. Sorry for the long post!
It was a joy to interact with you. And when you crack the code, let me in on the how. If I'm around. Because what you are talking about will take decades and I will possibly not live to see it. Can't be done because we wish it. Voting them out is the first step to change legislation and all the rest of it, but how can it be done when women are still voting for men who are so openly against them? (They don't even bother to hide it, given that our vote is a given) Everywhere, mind you. Iceland is possibly the only exception to the rule at the moment, though still not ideal. We keep voting for the fuckers and still marrying them. Anyway. Like I said. I'm buying the first copy of your book / manifest :-)
The non-religious have a huge sense of entitlement too. A lot of them are "intrigued" by strong women because they want to break them, and break their spirit.
It's a male thing, isn't it? They all hate strong women. The religious ones justify their hate by using scriptures. The non-religious ones are doing pretty much the same thing without the use of scriptures. But both groups were affected to a degree - possibly a great degree - by the patriarchal sexist notions that were established and normalised by religions; even the group of men who are atheists were raised in the same misogynistic world, so many of them are every bit as horrible to women. Patriarchal religions established the rules of misogyny. And these still influence our culture, whether we follow religious doctrines or not...
Just a day ago a guy wanted to "chat" with me because he says I am intriguing. Just more bullshit of course. He wanted to use me to "help him keep awake" at his fake medical job that he invented, thinking it was going to lure me in. These guys are all such liars and manipulators. I learned my lesson from just a few encounters with men. Women are so naive and have no idea that the men they are coupled with right now have manipulated and abused more than one woman before them. They all view women as existing to serve them. Every single one of them.
It's good that you saw through the bullshit and avoided him. It's a matter of survival these days. The world is populated with porn addicts looking for victims. Stay safe.
Great piece, fury well articulated. I think we need a long-term underground plan. Over the course of the next generation we need the gather an international underground network and stage a coup-de-tat and literally take over the world. I am thinking of writing a book about it, kind of dystopian fiction set in the not-to-distant future. It's been growing in my mind for a week or so now. We've tried to be reasonable right?
I think it already is in a quiet way that gives me some hope. I read a great post about women choosing to co-habit with other women rather than getting married and I think that this generation of women are questioning traditions like marraige a lot more than my age group. But I do think an intentional global revolution is required where women take power - the fight for equality has been long and hard, one step forward, 2 steps back, too many causalities, too little real gain. None of us are free until we are all free.
Marriage is where it needs to start. For those who are married, to change the narrative if they can. For the rest to stop falling for that trap. (Nothing annoys me more than seeing young women on Instagram doing that wedding rings shot!)
More young women are choosing not to marry yes, which is great news in my book, but also at the same time, more young women are, according to statistics, supporting men's "authority" at home (I will be writing on that soon and sharing the statistics there), which is sad beyond words.
You can't have a revolution with women rushing home to cook his dinner and praise him because he sat for 35 minutes with his own kids. Or being OK with him demanding some form of porn-inspired sexual compensation from you each time he empties the dishwasher. As long as women are trapped inside the hamster wheel of taking care of him, meeting his every need, how can they fight against the very system that keeps them there? All they can do is continue policing the rest of us for pointing it out.
Refusing to marry them is where the revolution starts. The rest will follow. As you said, heterosexual women need to start searching for alternative "everydayness": living with other women, sharing the costs and their lives with them, raising their kids together. Living without the possibility of male violence. Supporting other women's businesses, buying only from other women, and voting for women. Stop supporting misogynistic politicians. Stop supporting churches / religious institutions that devalue them. This is how it will start. Not with all of us marching and shouting slogans in the streets or bombing buildings. Not with violence. But by changing our own perspective, priorities. By voting for women who are fighting for women's issues. By putting ourselves and our children before men. (It doesn't always happen; the grooming being so powerful) Let's decentre them. Vote them out. Let us stop # NotAllMen-ing each time there is even a hint of talking about male violence, marriages that are prisons for so many women, domestic violence, et. Yes, we know that there are good men out there. But we also know that 1) they are the exception, and 2) they are fewer than many of us think. Not replying to everything by #NotAllMen would also be a revolutionary act in my book! (I do not refer to you, Elizabeth, but I'm preemptively trying to avoid replying to comments about women's wonderful husbands /father)
Let them see what we have been offering to them: attention, free labour, sex, family, validation, power, our vote, money by buying everything they create/sell. This is how I see the "revolution". (Tell me about yours)

This is the other article (part 1 of four - I will be posting part 3 later today actually - an intro to cults): https://fanitsa.substack.com/p/under-the-guise-of-spirituality

Got a few decades in me, I think. But just in case I don't, hurry up.

Do it! I'm pre-ordering my copy right now!! (Thanks for reading)
As for the "revolution" you propose, it has to happen! Starting from home!

I'm convinced marriage is for losers. This is coming from someone who was forced to get married.
I wouldn't say is "for losers". I would say it's "for losing". (if you are a woman that is)
